Amsterdam Icons 2012
The Historic Amsterdam League is pleased to offer Amsterdam Icons 2012, the inaugural edition of an annual calendar from HAL. Amsterdam Icons 2012 is a full color 12 month wall size (11″ x 17″) calendar featuring monthly illustrations originally appearing on postcards of Amsterdam from the the early 1900′s. The twelve historic images selected to appear on the 2012 HAL calendar are iconic in their representation of the City of Amsterdam, from churches and hospitals to mansions and mills, symbolizing important aspects of living and life in the city. Accompanying each month’s picture is a brief paragraph providing relevant information and historical facts; the front cover subject, the Sanford Mansion –
Amsterdam City Hall – additionally has a full page of information and supplemental photos. Scattered throughout the monthly date listings, in addition to the usual holidays and observances, are important, entertaining, and often little known dates from local history – the first broadcast of WCSS, the last trolley from Schenectady, Issur Danielovich’s birthday, the victory of the Rugmakers over the New York Yankees.
